Artist Biography: I paint because I am more fully human as a result of the process. The practice allows me a fuller range of emotional and mental experience, and the opportunity to share the results with a public creates the opportunity to communicate with people in unexpected ways and with surprising outcomes. My paintings are concerned with the life of the mind as it is informed through visual experience. Ours is a world of many images, carefully constructed to fulfill often rigid ideas about beauty, normalcy, and pleasure. The consistent practice of working through materials gives me the opportunity to look again, in a different way, at things we’ve all seen before, and ultimately present visual fields that talk back to the overbearing constructions of our visual culture.
